School-Based Behavioral Health Projects

The World Health Organization states that half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14. If left unaddressed, these diagnoses often continue into adulthood. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated rates of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, social isolation, as well as increased the risk of domestic violence and child abuse. School-based behavioral health services are increasingly recognized as valuable for both preventing and treating mental health problems in youth populations. Our research examines how school-based programs can increase access, improve mental health and wellness of youth, and educate school personnel about how to detect and respond to student behavioral health concerns.
