Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) Evaluations

2021-26. With funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), both Northern Humboldt Union High School District and Del Norte County Office of Education are training local adults to provide evidenced-based screening, providing students with appropriate services and supports, and providing evidenced based training to students so they are able to better care for themselves and support their peers. Our School Health Evaluation and Research team is evaluating their progress through Progress Reports to document activities, analysis of California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) core and Mental Health Supports Modules, as well as the development and analysis of training surveys and youth empowerment surveys. The findings describe capacity among school employees and community stakeholders to detect and respond to mental health problems, crisis, or illness in school-aged youth, impact of student empowerment programs, and improved referral pathways for students to local mental health services.
